Uniform
The Corsham School requires all students in
Years 7-11 to wear uniform.
Our uniform promotes a distinctive and smart appearance both inside and outside school, identifying the wearer as a student of The Corsham School. Our uniform requirements are intended to be clear and unambiguous.
Our policy on School uniform is based on the notion that School uniform:
- Promotes a sense of pride in the School
- Teaches students to dress smartly and help them prepare for when they leave school and may have to dress smartly or wear a uniform
- Engenders a sense of community and belonging towards the School
- Is practical and smart
- Identifies the children with the School
- Is gender-neutral and doesn’t pressure students to be confined to outdated gendered norms
- Prevents children from coming to School in fashionable clothes and helps make children feel more equal to their peers in terms of appearance
- Is regarded as suitable wear for School and good value for money by most parents.
Uniform Expectations - Overview
- Corsham School Grey V-Necked Jumper with matching navy trousers or navy shorts.
- White shirt and Corsham School tie.
- Black socks with navy trousers or black opaque tights with a skirt.
- Black leather/faux leather shoes which are able to be polished.
Some of our students put their parents under enormous pressure to buy fashion items/get hair styles/facial piercings/false nails which they know are not acceptable as part of the uniform but will claim to their parents that they are allowed.
Parent/Carer support will help avoid problems when any student failing to meet these expectations during the day faces consequences which could result in them being removed from learning alongside their peers until the uniform matter is resolved. This action would be necessary but extremely disappointing when all we want is for every child to remain in class and maximise all their face-to-face learning opportunities. The vast majority of the students at The Corsham School get all of these expectations absolutely right all of the time and the school is hugely grateful to these students and their parents/carers for supporting on this important issue.
Important Notes on Uniform
School Jumpers (or blazer)
Year 7 - 8: The school's V necked jumper is the expected outer layer of our school uniform
Year 9 - 11: The school's V necked jumper or blazer is the expected outer layer of our school uniform.
In hot weather or in classrooms students may choose to take their school jumper/blazer off.
In cold and wet weather, students should wear a coat, however the coat does not replace the school jumper/blazer. Students cannot wear a coat without wearing a school jumper/blazer.
Skirts/Shorts
These can be purchased from our approved supplier (https://scholars-uk.com/). Please ensure that the size purchased allows the skirt to be worn at an appropriate length. As a guide, the hem should be no more than one hand's width above the knee. The skirt should not be worn rolled over at the waist.
Shirts
White Shirts may be long or short-sleeved but should have a collar and should always be worn with a tie. Shirts should always be tucked into trousers or skirts.
Ties
All students must wear school ties that represent their House.
Burlington - Blue
Hazelbury - Green
Freestone - Yellow
Stockwell - Red
Trousers - Navy
These can be purchased from our approved supplier. If these are purchased from other retailers, they should match the approved colour and style of our school uniform.
PE Kit
Orion blue jersey or red polo shirt. Blue or black shorts/skort. Red socks (winter) and white socks (summer). Studded football boots and trainers as indicated by PE teacher.
Optional Extras - Red, navy blue or black thermals can be worn under polo shirt and/or skort/shorts. Navy or black tracksuit bottoms. Orion hooded sweatshirt.
Lycra fitted cycling shorts are not permitted.
Hairstyles, make-up and jewellery
The school does not permit extreme hairstyles (this includes unnatural colours, tramlines, crew cuts etc.) along with coloured nails and excessive/non-discreet makeup.
Items of jewellery are not allowed except a standard wristwatch (no smart watches allowed) and one small stud worn in each ear lobe.
No other piercings are allowed.
Only school badges can be worn on school clothing. Sunglasses should not be worn at all during lessons and should be in bags.
Headwear
In cold weather, an appropriate woollen hat is permitted and in extreme summer conditions, a cap may be worn. Hats must not be worn inside the buildings at any point.
Temporary uniform passes
A note from a parent or carer is needed to confirm any genuine uniform issue. The school will do what we can to help resolve the problem by loaning items as needed. A temporary uniform pass may also be issued which permits a student to attend lessons whilst a minor issue is resolved.
Lost uniform
All items of uniform must be named so that they can be returned if lost – items of lost property are held in student reception for a short period of time.
