Design & Technology

In today's rapidly evolving world, Design and Technology (D&T) stands at the forefront of innovation, blending creativity with practical problem solving.  Studying D&T equips students with essential skills in critical thinking, project management, and technical design, preparing them for a wide range of careers in engineering, architecture, product design and beyond.  The discipline fosters a deep understanding of how things work, encouraging students to think outside the box and create solutions that can make a real impact on society.

Our school offers an unparalleled environment for studying D&T, distinguished by our commitment to excellence and innovation:

  • State of the art facilities: our workshops are equipped with wood lathes, a centre lathe, a brazing hearth, and CAM equipment such as a CNC router, laser cutter and a 3D printer.  Our food rooms are fully equipped.

  • Expert Faculty: our teachers are professionals, some from industry, and dedicated educators with extensive experience within D&T.  They bring real world insights and a passion for teaching that inspire our students.

  • Comprehensive Curriculum: we offer a robust and dynamic curriculum that covers all aspects of D&T, from foundational principles to advanced design projects.  Our curriculum is designed to engage and challenge students, fostering both technical proficiency and creative thinking.

  • Enrichment Opportunities: we offer trips, such as Legoland, Harry Potter Studios, The Design Museum and Museum of Brands, and clubs, such as craft club, CAD/CAM, Christmas cakes, Wagamama's club to our students across KS3, 4 and 5. Students regularly participate in these popular events and enable students to apply the knowledge accumulated within lesson.  These opportunities not only enhance their learning experience but also build their resilience and confidence.

  • Supportive Community: our school is a vibrant and inclusive community where students are encouraged to collaborate, share ideas, and support one another.  We believe that a supportive learning environment is key to fostering innovation and success.

  • Subject Ambassadors: we have the opportunity for students to become D&T subject Ambassadors; representing the various disciplines within D&T; Food, RM, Textiles and Graphics. As a D&T Ambassador, pupils will have the chance to promote D&T subjects and activities within the school, collaborate with teachers to enhance D&T opportunities and represent our school in competitions and events.

Choosing to study D&T at our school means embarking on a journey of discovery, innovation and excellence.  We hope that your child joins us to become part of a community that is shaping the future of Design and Technology.
