Knowledge Organisers:

Knowledge Organisers provide the core knowledge from our curriculum that the students are required to know to meet curriculum expectations. They are an excellent resource to use for revision in preparation for assessments or examinations.

Curriculum Information

At the Corsham School, we believe that art is a vital part of education, fostering self-expression, critical thinking, and cultural awareness. Our dynamic curriculum is designed to inspire and challenge students, providing them with a strong foundation in various artistic techniques and mediums.  

We aim to provide and inspire personal expression, cultural understanding, creative and practical responses, promoting imaginative risk taking to provide solutions to our material, emotional, social and virtual worlds.  

Students will investigate a wide range of creative outcomes from the past and present to develop a rigorous understanding of the many disciplines within art, craft and design and how they shape our history and future.  

Art and Design makes a vital contribution to student's education in: 

• Creativity and Imagination: Art encourages children to think outside the box and develop original ideas. 

• Critical Thinking: Through art, students learn to analyse and interpret visual information and make creative decisions. 

• Cultural Awareness: Art education exposes students to diverse cultures and historical periods, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the world around them. 

• Emotional Expression: Art provides a safe outlet for expressing emotions and exploring personal experiences. 

• Problem-Solving Skills: Creating art involves experimenting with different techniques and materials, helping children learn to solve problems creatively. 

• Fine Motor Skills: Working with various art tools and materials enhances hand-eye coordination and dexterity. 

• Confidence and Self-Esteem: Completing art projects and sharing their work with others builds confidence and a sense of achievement. 

• Collaboration and Communication: Art projects often involve group work, teaching students how to collaborate and communicate effectively with their peers. 

• Perseverance and Patience: Art teaches children the value of practice, patience, and perseverance in achieving their goals. 

• Appreciation of Beauty and Aesthetics: Art education fosters an appreciation for beauty and the role of aesthetics in everyday life. 

Extracurricular: 

We offer a range of extracurricular clubs and opportunities, which include KS3 Craft Club and KS4/5 Keep-Up Club. KS4/5 Students are also able to make use of our specialist art classrooms during lunchtime and after school, supervised by our art teachers. 

 

Studying at GCSE and A-Level 

Fine Art: 

Our AQA GCSE and A-Level Fine Art course offers a dynamic exploration of various artistic techniques and mediums. Students will engage with drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking, building a strong foundation in the visual arts. This course encourages self-expression, critical analysis, and the development of a unique artistic voice, culminating in a comprehensive portfolio that showcases each student’s individual style and creativity. 

Photography: 

The AQA GCSE and A-Level Photography course provides students with the tools and knowledge to capture the world through a lens. Focusing on both technical proficiency and creative vision, this course covers essential skills such as camera operation, composition, lighting, and digital editing. Students will learn to create powerful visual narratives, develop their own photographic style, and build a professional-quality portfolio that demonstrates their artistic abilities. 

Textiles: 

Our AQA GCSE and A-Level Textiles course blends creativity with practical skills in fabric manipulation, dyeing, printing, and construction. Students will explore the world of fashion design, costume design, and interior textiles, gaining insights into the textile industry and sustainable practices. This course emphasises innovative design and technical expertise, enabling students to produce original textile pieces and a diverse portfolio that highlights their talents and craftsmanship.
