Attendance
Excellent attendance is one of the key factors in academic success.
At Corsham Sixth, we expect students to attend all lessons, tutorial sessions and other timetabled activities. Regular attendance helps students make the most of their learning opportunities, develop positive study habits and build strong relationships with staff and peers.
We encourage students to take responsibility for their attendance and to communicate with us whenever circumstances may affect their ability to attend.
Attendance Expectations
- Year 12 Students - year 12 students are expected to attend sixth form for the whole school day and should be on-site for all timetabled lessons, tutor sessions and private study periods. Students may leave the school site during lunchtime.
- Year 13 Students - year 13 students are expected to attend their daily tutor session and all timetabled lessons. Students may be permitted to work independently off-site during study periods, provided they are meeting the standards of attendance, progress and independent study expected within Corsham Sixth.
Reporting an Absence
If a student is unable to attend due to illness, the sixth form team should be informed as soon as possible, ideally before 8.30am on the day of absence.
- Year 12 students - absences must be reported by a parent or guardian.
- Year 13 students - absences may be reported by either the student or a parent/guardian.
Absences can be reported by emailing 6thform@corsham.wilts.sch.uk or via the School Gateway App.
Where lessons have been missed, students are encouraged to contact their teachers to request any work or resources so that they can remain up to date with their studies.
Planned Absence
We recognise that students may occasionally need to be absent for important appointments, university visits or other exceptional circumstances. Where possible, planned absences should be requested in advance using the Planned Absence Form and submitted at least three school days before the proposed absence.
Why Attendance Matters - Every Lesson Counts
Consistent attendance enables students to:
- Maximise their academic progress
- Access the full curriculum
- Benefit from teacher support and feedback
- Develop positive study routines
- Stay connected with their tutor group and sixth form community
Students who attend regularly are better placed to achieve their academic goals and make informed decisions about their future pathways.
Supporting Students
We understand that there may be occasions when attendance becomes difficult because of illness, wellbeing concerns or personal circumstances. If a student is experiencing difficulties affecting their attendance, we encourage them or their parent/carer to contact us as early as possible. Our pastoral and sixth form teams will work with students and families to identify appropriate support and help them remain engaged with their education.
