The Role
We are looking to appoint two skilled and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistants to help our students engage in learning, build confidence and make progress.
Both postholders will work across Maths and English enhanced learning provision and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) support. Each role will combine targeted literacy and numeracy interventions with support for students’ emotional wellbeing, confidence and engagement in learning. The balance of responsibilities will reflect students’ needs and the school’s priorities.
Working under the direction of teaching staff, you will plan and deliver agreed learning activities and interventions, support individual students and groups, contribute to the assessment of their progress and help create a positive, inclusive learning environment. You may also lead learning with a whole class where appropriate, within the agreed responsibilities of the role.
You will help students strengthen their core skills through planned literacy and numeracy interventions, while building positive relationships and using appropriate behaviour and regulation strategies to support their SEMH needs. You will work closely with teachers, the SEND team and pastoral colleagues, including the EBSA/ELSA team, and support teaching assistants to develop students’ learning and progress across the school.
You will bring experience of supporting secondary-age students in a school or comparable setting, strong communication and organisational skills, and a sound understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice. You will hold a Level 2 qualification, or recognised equivalent, in both English and mathematics, and have a working knowledge of core learning support and SEMH approaches. You will be confident adapting support to students’ differing needs, recording progress and providing feedback to colleagues.
We welcome applications from candidates who already hold HLTA status. We will also consider experienced candidates who do not yet hold it, provided they can demonstrate the skills needed for the post and are willing to work towards HLTA status. The Trust will support the successful candidates with the preparation and assessment required.
We welcome applications from both existing colleagues and external candidates for these two posts, each of which covers Maths, English and SEMH support.
