Getting Ready for Sixth Form – Subject Transition Resources for September 2026 Starters

Starting sixth form is an exciting step, and these subject-specific resources have been designed to help you make a confident and successful start to your studies. Here you will find a range of activities, recommended reading, videos, podcasts or independent tasks provided by our teachers to introduce key concepts, develop your subject knowledge and give you a flavour of what to expect in your chosen courses. We encourage you to explore the materials for each of your subjects over the summer so that you arrive in September feeling prepared, curious and ready to embrace the opportunities of sixth form study.

Free Online Courses to Explore

As part of your preparation for sixth form, you may also wish to explore the wide range of free online courses available through FutureLearn. Many courses link directly to A Level and Level 3 subjects, helping you build your knowledge, explore new ideas and develop skills that will support your studies.

All courses can be accessed free of charge. While FutureLearn offers the option to purchase a certificate, this is entirely optional and is not required. You can still include any courses you complete on applications, including UCAS applications, without purchasing a certificate.

Courses are completed independently and can be fitted around your summer plans, with suggested weekly study hours provided for each course. If you decide to take part, we recommend keeping a record of the courses you complete and making notes as you go. These can be useful when completing future applications or discussing your interests and experiences at interviews.

We encourage you to take a look, explore subjects that interest you and make the most of the opportunities available as you prepare for your next step.
