At Key Stage 3 pupils study languages for 5 lessons a fortnight. The skills of listening and responding, speaking, reading and responding and writing carry equal weight in lessons and are assessed. They are introduced to the language using a variety of teaching methods and resources to ensure that all pupils are engaged and progress well in their learning. We also endeavour to develop an enthusiasm for the culture of the places where the language is spoken and hope to enable our pupils to have an awareness of the wider world and become well-informed global citizens.
Pupils are offered the opportunity to participate in a number of language learning and culturally enriching trips abroad including French and German exchanges and a short visit to Boulogne, France.
We join the annual celebration of the European Day of Languages and encourage our pupils to continue their language learning into adulthood to further their career prospects and life experiences. |
