Taster Days 2019
We work closely with our primary feeder schools and we offer an opportunity for Year 5 students at these schools to come and enjoy a taster day with us. Last year this included activities on the climbing wall time in the making room and in our photography dark room. Their day was captured on iPads and shared with students as a memento.
Students in Year 6 are then invited to spend a further day at their new school - this is usually in January of Year 6. On these days, further activities are undertaken to give students a real sense of secondary school life. 6th Form leaders and guides from Year 8 spend time with them to answer any questions and reassure them about the challenges to come!
A ‘Taster Day’ is the opportunity for Year 5 and Year 6 students to spend a day with us experiencing all the opportunities available at The Corsham School. We liaise closely with our feeder Primary Schools to organise a Taster Day for each Year 5 and Year 6 class. Year 5 Taster Days take place in July of each year and Year 6 Taster Days in January.
Taster Day visits allow the students to experience a ‘Day in the Life’ of The Corsham School. Students follow a timetable and experience a variety of lessons including Film Studies, Philosophy and Media Studies as well as more familiar subjects such as English, Maths and Science.
All students get the chance to spend a lesson in ‘The Making Room’- a hub of creativity and practical learning and find out how creativity is central to our learning ethos.
Students also have the opportunity to ask questions of older students and hear about transition to secondary school from those who have recently experienced it.
Please find below details of the days that our Feeder Primary Schools will be joining us for the Year 6 Taster Days. If you would like your child to attend a Taster Day, please contact Sue Geoghegan, Transition Co-ordinator, who will book your child’s place.
