Michelle Donelan MP’s visit to The Corsham School
In the school hall where David Cameron launched the Conservative Party election campaign only 8 months ago, Michelle Donelan MP sat before 50 sixth form students from The Corsham School for a Q&A session. The visit was entirely organised by the Student Leaders, as part of their commitment to giving young people new and exciting opportunities.
After a student-given tour of the site and a meeting with the headteacher, Michelle Donelan was questioned by a group of sixth formers on topics ranging from fracking to university costs to the stigmatisation of people on benefits. Students asked questions on issues they felt were important and were given an opportunity to respond to the MP’s answers.
As Michelle Donelan commented afterwards, ‘[students] can be a forgotten voice’ - which we, as students, know better than anyone. The opportunity to give young people easier access to their Parliamentary representative was greatly appreciated and we hope our MP will return to The Corsham School again soon.
